Cadets from Virginia Military Institute enter robot in national competition

LEXINGTON — Cadet Clay Penney and eight other cadets have high hopes for “Wheggy,” the small robot that was constructed this year, named for its wheels that move over big obstacles.

The robot will particpate in the Federation of Galaxy Explorers’ Mars Rover Competition, an event going into its 10th year that has never been successfully completed due to seemingly endless potential complications.

Having put a tremendous amount of time and energy into this project, the cadets are feeling hopeful about winning the competition this year.
