Close to 600 cadets comprise Texas A&M Maritime Academy

GALVESTON, Texas – Almost 600 cadets make up Texas A&M Maritime Academy. The Academy’s goal is to provide Texas and the U.S. with U.S. Coast Guard officers to serve on various waterways.

The Corps of Cadets, which was initiated in 1962, is a part of the academy and its purpose is to develop character and leadership among its members.

Cadets are afforded the experience of spending several weeks on ships, working along side crews, and learning how to sail. This is useful in helping students to decide on their preferred course of study.
