The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps program (USNCC) was founded in 1958 by the Navy League of the United States at the request of the Department of the Navy. In 1962 it was chartered as a nonprofit youth organization with an emphasis toward the sea-going services of the U.S. It was only for boys up until 1974, when the law was amended to allow girls to participate.
