MMA Dream of New Training Ship Becoming a Reality

For the first time, Massachusetts Maritime Academy will receive a brand new training ship. Federal funding has been earmarked to replace the Kennedy, which was built in 1964 and used by the academy since 2000.

The new ship, which will be in service for a minimum of 40 years, serves a dual purpose: a training ship for the school and an investment that can be used for disaster relief.

The State University of New York Maritime Academy will also receive federal funding for a new training ship.
