U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.
A program to familiarize Air Force Academy cadets with the operational Air Force is booming today.
The initial group of cadets left Colorado Springs in early June for 26 Air Force bases including Edwards and Vandenberg Air Force bases in California, Joint Base-San Antonio, Texas, and Yokota Air Base, Japan.
Over 900 future “2-degree cadets,” similar to juniors at a civilian university, and 1,200 upcoming sophomore ROTC cadets will visit over 40 bases to consider career opportunities for officers and spend time with Airmen.
Cadets 1st Class David Mazza and Lucas Weyand assisted in the organization of this year’s Operations Air Force schedule.
Weyand, majoring in geospatial science, is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Last year he went to Mildenhall Air Base, UK. He noted that the program is useful because it helps cadets choose specialties that “suit them and makes them excited to come to work each day.”
He also enjoyed his time with those officers who are noncommissioned.
