California State University Maritime Academy has awarded Bethany Johnson, a senior Global Studies major, the prestigious Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship.

She is the first student from Cal Maritime to be awarded this fellowship, which will prepare her to represent America’s interests internationally.

Johnson, a first-generation college student, was among 30 fellows chosen from over 800 applicants. She will be given financial support, to be used for tuition and living expenses, for two years of graduate school and two internships that are paid.
