NEW LONDON, Conn. — In the near future, Coast Guard Academy cadets will have the ability to communicate with satellites in space from on campus classrooms via a satellite ground control station.
Such an opportunity will provide the cadets with hands-on experience with space technology through courses, building housing for a satellite system at the academy and constructing an 18-foot radome.
The satellites also could track sea ice in the Arctic, which would help to lower the cost of operating Coast Guard aircraft.
