Close to 550 SUNY Maritime cadets on the Training Ship Empire State VI are headed to Puerto Rico for their summer sea term to help with relief efforts.
They will help restore trade-based agriculture, prepare roofs for construction, and remove debris.
During their yearly summer sea term, cadets enroll in classes, take part in safety drills, plan the ship’s course, operate the power plant, and perform maintenance as part of the required training to earn a Coast Guard license.
