West Point offers high school students a taste of cadet life

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Over 1,000 future high school seniors made themselves known throughout the cadet barracks throughout the West Point training area during Summer Leader Experience in June.

Summer Leader Experience immerses students into life as a cadet, helping them to make better decisions when selecting a college.

Every year, more than 6,000 young men and women compete for the opportunity to attend SLE and experience the challenges of life as a cadet.

Candidates engaged in daily Army Physical Fitness training and participated in academic workshops, character development, and intramural athletics.

The students participated in a military orientation day that involved combatives training, room clearing, weapons qualification in the Electronic Simulation Training Center. They then toured the museum and visitors center.
